WinX Free iPod Video Converter is a video format converter. It allows you to convert most popular video formats to MPEG-4 and H.264 files that you can then play on your iPod. The application comes with quite a few conversion profiles with preset conversion parameters. You can also use this application to convert video files to audio files for audio playback. This can be achieved by simply selecting one of the conversion profiles under the "Music" tab. Since this is a free video converter, WinX has established some limitations, so that you are encouraged to buy the paid version. One of this limitations is input file support. Although most standard-definition files will be accepted and converted just fine, some HD formats are not. The application claims to support over 30 video formats.
In my testing, I was successful in converting a DivX file into the MPEG-4 normal profile, with a resolution of 320x240. The process took less than a minute for a 10-minute test file, which is great. The only problem that I noticed was that the audio sounded not so good. This is a problem of some WinX converters. The solution is to simply slide back the volume bar to 0 while converting. Apparently, by default, the application increases the volume by 10 decibels, which can cause some problems.
